What Causes Loose Stools In A 4 Year Old Boy?

My 4 year old son had very watery stools during the night, along with a tummy that was hard and distended. He also threw up this morning. Last week he threw up for 2 days straight and we thought it was just a bug, but for him now to have watery stools and throwing up again, I am concerned. He also has a low grade fever.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a worm infestation or viral gastroenteritis.

Consult a paediatrician and plan for a stool routine examination.

Once the diagnosis has been confirmed, he might require antibiotics empirically.

As of now, give him plenty of oral fluids to keep him hydrated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
