What Causes Losing Weight Of Fetus During Pregnancy?

Hi, my name is Jennifer, I will be 35 weeks tomorrow. I went to the doctor today and he told me that the baby and I both lost weight. He also stated that the baby is not gaining weight properly. I have gestational diabetes, which cause me not to eat like I should. I love sweets and mostly junk food, but since the doctor wants me to watch what I eat, I just don't really have an appetite. What causes the baby to lose weight? I am 31 years old, 5'2 and weight now 242. Before I got pregnant I had a pituitary tumor remove about 3 mos. earlier.

Hello ma'am and welcome.

There are various factors that can cause growth and develolmental restraints for the fetus, of course maternal nutrition is one of them. Although diabetes itself causes macrosomia. Some of the more common causes are infections, poor maternal weight gain, uterine abnormalities, congenital factors, genital factors, poor placental blood flow, etc. Please speak to your doctor for a more elaborate evaluation.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
