What Causes Loss Of Appetite And Excess Sleepiness Post Partial Nephrectomy?

I had open partial nephrectomy about 2 months ago. The surgery was good. The tumor was low grade. My recovery was also fine except for the past couple of days. I am loosing my appetite and feeling sleepy all the time. I have no fever or headache. Also, i feel hard lump around the suture site. Is this normal ?

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I read your question carefully and understand your concern.

Your symptoms may be related to a low kidney function ( caused by the nephrectomy) and the accumulation in blood of different toxins, which usually are excreted through the kidneys.

Other causes, would be chronic anemia, electrolyte imbalance and low thyroid function (not related to nephrectomi).

I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical examination, a routine blood test, kidney and liver function tests, blood electrolytes, calcium and uric acid plasma levels, thyroid hormone levels, to find out the possible cause.

Hope to have been of help!

Best wishes,
Dr. Iliri
