Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Loss Of Bladder Control After Hysterectomy?
Recently had full hysterectomy. I had large fibroid tumors on the uterus. After surgery felt pretty good for about 10 days, then starting having bladder leakage. Have never had problems with leakage. Went to my Doctors office and they tested for bladder infection, which they said was positive. Have been taking the medication for about 8 days but still have some leakage. Do you think the bladder control and leakage will eventually go away? Concerned that this will be a permanent problem.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Loss of bladder control and leakage after hysterectomy could be due to injury to nerves which control bladder filling and emtyping. I suggest you to consult your surgeon to look for most probable cause of loss of bladder control. In case the loss of bladder control is found to be due to injury to the nerves, it may take some time for it to recover. At the same time, you need to consult an urologist also for clinical assessment and to determine the most probable cause of loos of bladder control and thus to manage.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
