Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter who is almost 49 years old has lost her sense of smell. She went to the Doctor and they did a test and said she has Chronic Sinusitus. She was put on some kind of medicine, however she still has the same problem. She does have a appointment next week with a ear, nose Doctor. What do you think could be wrong? Thank you Jan Cassidy YYYY@YYYY
Usually a stuffy nose can cause deceased smell perception. It can be due to allergies, sinusitis, infections, etc.
Medication will help to reduce the nasal congestion and this will help bring back the smell perception. If not then other causes will need to be investigated.
Let her do steam inhalation with proper precaution as advised by the Doctor which will help asking with nasal decongestant drops.
Thanking you.
Regards,
Dr.Aashish Raghu
