Hello,

As per your query you are experiencing loss of smell which seems to be due to olfactory nerve dysfunction. It could be due to infection of sinuses.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to avoid pricking nose with any sharp object. You should maintain complete hygiene of the oral and nasal cavity. Do nasal rinses and take steam inhalation as well.

You should consult ENT specialist once for proper examination. The doctor may order CT scan, nasal endoscopy, blood test and physical examination and may prescribe antibiotics at least for 10 days along with anti-inflammatory. The doctor may also consider surgery or refer you to a neurologist for nerve defect.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
