I may know the answer already, but I always keep hoping that I am wrong! I have lost my sense of smell and taste a long time ago and have never gotten it back. It makes my life less fun, especially when I am with other people and going to restaurants. Is there any help for me. I do try to eat spicy, or strong flavored foods, but even this does not help much. Thank you for trying, but I have been to two EMT doctors and they cannot help me.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your query you have symptoms of loss of the sense of taste and smell which could be due to long term use of medication, oral infection and nerve dysfunction like glossopharyngeal nerve.
Need not to worry about it. I would advise to maintain complete hygiene. You should use of oral corticosteroids as well because if it's due to any allergy it will resume back taste. I would suggest you to visit neurologist once and take medications which lower down autoimmune or nervous system disorder. Give them diet rich in zinc supplements as that will recover there taste.
Hope your concern has been resolved. Get Well Soon.
