Hello,

You have history of loosing your voice last year for 6 months. Overusing your voice, by speaking too much, speaking too loudly, shouting or singing causes laryngitis and hence temporary loss of voice. Loss of voice also occurs due to respiratory tract infection, cigarette smoking, excessive alcohol intake, gastritis, etc. Presently, you are experiencing chest tightness, wheezy, breathlessness and loss of voice(difficulty in speaking).

Give voice rest, talk only when required. Take plenty of water and use humidifier to stay comfortable. Keep lozenges in your mouth to help throat stay moist. Steam inhalation will help relieve congestion. Gargle your throat with warm saline water 2-3 times daily. Get swab and sputum test done to stay on the safer side. Get clinically examined by a GP, get X-ray chest, blood tests and other investigations done, get treated. If laryngitis is chronic and you have bacterial infection, you will need treatment with a course of antibiotics (corticosteroids).

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
