What Causes Loss Of Weight And Swollen Feet Post Addictive Drug Withdrawal?

My uncle has been a crack addict for over 25 years.(62yrs old) And 2 months ago he stopped using. For the same 2 months he s been really sick. So his mom thought he was just going through withdrawls but it s worse. He s lost a lot of weight, can t eat & what little he does eat goes straight through him and his feet are extremely swollen. He s been going to the dr for the past 3 weeks & just last week he went everyday except Wednesday. They gave him 2 pints of blood but still hasn t said what is wrong with him. His mother (85 years old) is worried to death cause they haven t said what going on with him. She s going to take him to the er in the morning. What could it be? I know a number of things but just to know what to expect.

Cannot say without an exam BUT
it is very likely to be bad. Liver or heart failure can do this and these can occur from drug abuse either directly or secondarily through a viral infection such as HCV or HIV.
