What Causes Low WBC Count While Suffering From Recurrent C.difficile Infection?
Hi . I was hospitalized due to recurrent c diff infection after taking antibiotics that caused me many health issues :arthritis, colitis and pancreatitis and anaemia .. my WBC has been between 5-8.2 ( which is the normal range. However the third and last recurrent my WBC went down to 3.8 while the normal range is 4. Should I be worried?
Hello Dear. A low WBC count is usually caused by Viral infections that temporarily disrupt the work of bone marrow and sometimes medications, such as antibiotics, that destroy white blood cells. So the low WBC may be due to over use of antibiotics in your treatment. If it is only for a small duration that you had low WBC then do not worry. It is definitely due to antibiotics.
Only if you have other symptoms like persistent fever, repeated infections which do not respond to treatment etc then other serious possibilities can be thought of. Otherwise nothing to worry.
Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you. All the best With warm regards Dr Sanjay Kini
