What Causes Low Blood Pressure Levels?

I am 77 yrs. old and take two prescription medications. They are Tramadol & Meloxicam for spinal stenosis. I am in excellent health. My blood pressure is always low. Recently I went to the Dr. for results of blood work for wellness visit (excellent results) and my blood pressure was very high. The Dr. prescribed blood pressure medication. I'm reluctant to take it because I don't like to take drugs of any kind and never have. I've been monitoring my blood pressure and it is lower. For my age what is considered "normal" for blood pressure? My usual numbers are between 124 - 137 over the 70s or 80s.

Hello! Welcome to HealthcareMagic!

I have read through your question and understand your concern.

Sometimes blood pressure may shoot up temporarily because of various factors like stress and anxiety or excessive exertion. Since you have mentioned that your blood pressure is generally normal and you have been monitoring it, there is no need to take anti-hypertensive drugs at this point. A blood pressure of 124/137 is completely normal at your age. Just keep a track of your blood pressure and report to the physician if it shows any spikes.

I hope that answers your query. If you have any further questions, please feel free to write to me. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic.

Take care

Regards,
