Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Low Energy Levels While On Prednisone?
I have been on prednisone for three years for polymyalgia rheumatic and I m taking 6.5 point five mg a day. I am trying to understand FYI have some energy in the morning and then very low energy in the afternoon oftentimes I have to lie down then around 5 PM I get my evening bump and have quite a bit of energy and fuel closer to normal. However if I exercise I can do so for about an hour and then my energy tank is empty. Then if I rest I regained some of my energy. My doctor told me my veins are inflamed and not delivering enough oxygen to myself and also not clearing away the waste. Is this the case and doesn t mean I have a vascular disease?
Prednisolone itself or steroids may cause drowsiness and lack of energy. Still, they have many side effects like peptic ulcer disease, diabetes or psychosis or osteoporosis etc.
Also, check for other possibilities like hypothyroidism or anaemia or hypotension or sepsis or electrolyte imbalance etc. Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
