What Causes Low Grade Fever And Cough For A Long Period Of Time?

my pc is referring me to a pulmonologist because i have had a cough since around aug 22. I first had just a 102.8 fever for about 4 days before the cough started. PC Dr ordered a chest xray to rule out pnemonia, did a round of Levequin, advair inhaler 2x per day, and albuteral as needed. I have off and on had a low grade fever, still have a cough that is still wheezy on only the left side, and goes back and forth between congested feeling and dry. I feel like i get somewhat out of breath when i do stairs, or exert myself but am otherwixe not tired. I am active and exercise so am not normally like that. I am 41 yr old female 5'5", 125 lbs with no asthma, no smoking, and otherwise except for a back issue very healthy. Any ideas?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Thanks for your question on HCM. I would like to know weather your chest x ray is normal or not. And yes you should definately consult pulmonologist and get done repeat chest x ray and PFT (pulmonary function test). By your symptoms there are few differentials like chronic infection (TB or fungal) or chronic bronchitis. In both these condition patient can have chronic cough with low grade fever. You are also saying that you feel breathless on climbing stairs, this favours chronic bronchitis more. Chest x ray will diagnose infection and PFT will diagnose chronic bronchitis. For this you need to consult pulmonologist. And chronic bronchitis treated by inhaled medicines .
