What Causes Low Grade Fever, Shortness Of Breath And Chest Pain While Coughing?

I have a low grade fever 100.5, shortness of breath, I have pain in my upper right back mid chest when I try to cough. I can feel almost normal with ibuprofen but when that runs out my fever goes up and I feel bad again. I was having severe joint pain the first day or two. No diarrhea or vomiting... went to a prompt care on Saturday afternoon where they took 2 chest x rays and urinalysis with negative results. They will call me tomorrow when a radiologist can look at my x-ray.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath and joint pain then it is possible you have the flu. Some persons can have a bacterial infection of their chest along with the flu so you may need a course of antibiotics after your X-ray is reviewed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
