What Causes Low Level Of Testosterone?

My husband, a 37 year old male just got his testosterone results today...level of 49....obviously this is extremely low. Dr is putting him on a cream...should there be other testing he should go through to find out why it's this low? And what could those reasons be? They did rule out cancer.

Hello,
Absolutely. He should undergo other tests before staring treatment to find out why the testosterone is low. This include a thorough history and physical examination. He should have tests for Prolactin, Thyroid functions, LH, FSH, etc. Sometimes a semen analysis also is required ( if you are planning for babies). There are many reasons for low testsosterone. Lab error, Obesity, Hypothyroidism, High prolactin, testicular problems, Mumps in past and so many other reasons. It is extremely important to find out the reason before embarking on treatment
