What Causes Low Neutrophil Count?

Hello! My NEUTROPHILS count is low for many years. (In Australia the normal range is:1.7 - 7.5) As all the other numbers were in the CORRECT range, my doctor did not investigate the reason for the low number. -- At present it is slightly lower again, 1.6 BUT at the same time the EOSINOPHILS the first time are higher, 0.62. (RANGE: 0.0 -0.5)Please inform me what could be the reason and also should it be investigated and followed my a treatment? I feel healthy, mobile, 66 years old. Thank you for your help.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hi.....I m Dr.Kumarbhargav .....pathologist...
I understand your situation....
Neutrophils are the first line of defence against microbes or infectious agents....
Its normal range is around what you have mentioned which is established for your environmental conditions and climates...
Neutrophils have some variation with little bit more decreased in older age...
Looking to your condition if you do not have any symptoms or complaints....
you just follow up with repeat test....
Regarding eosinophils...which is increased in allergic conditions like allergic skin disease, asthma...and parasites..many ....but it is commonly borderline increased in allergic cold and cough....
I think you should have your blood smear interpretation...which will guide regarding maturation or any other abnormality.....
Look for any allergy....if you have.....get your peripheral blood smear examined....which will clears your doubts....
Thanks for contacting....good luck...
