What Causes Low Potassium Levels In The Blood?

I was to have an injection in my back today. They checked my blood and found my postassium level was 2.9 down from 3.1 one month ago. I have been taking a diuretic for the last few months, hlydrochlorodiazide. I am a male 69 yrs. of age. What is your recommendation.

Hello,

Your low potassium levels in the blood might be caused by hydrochlortiazide.

For that, I would recommend you to take potassium supplements or to eat food rich in potassium (e.g banana, potatoes, etc) or you may consult your doctor to stop hydrochlorthiazide and use another drug for high blood pressure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Elton Halili,
