What Causes Low Sodium Levels?

My dad has been hospitalized because he fell. He is 80 years old. During his treatment for fall, Doctor found out that his sodium level was very low, below 110. He is being treated for last 4-5 days and his sodium level are is up to 131. During this time though he is delusional and either talks too much or does not talk at all. My question is, is this a normal until he gets his sodium level above 135? Will he have any long lasting effects?

Just to explain it easily. Either your sodium levels are low because you are loosing them mainnly in the urine. Severa medications can have this effect like lasix. The circulatory levels of sodium can also be low when the total amount of water of the body is increased. This is the case of heart failure. Adding sodium in a careful way is not risky
