What Causes Lower Abdominal Cramps When Diagnosed With Diverticulitis?

I am having cramps in the lower abd . with blood mucus discharge. I have been dx with diverticulum about 7 years ago. I not sure what this means, I have placed myself on a clear liquid diet, however I am still cramping and having the blood mucus discharge. should I call my PCP and see him? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You should consult a nearby doctor for a detailed evaluation. The blood and mucus in the stool could be due to colitis like infection or diverticulitis.

I suggest you take a semisolid and Bland diet more. Don't take excess spicy foods. Drink more water and more fiber-containing diet. I recommend a stool analysis report to guide your further management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
