What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain Along With Reddish Tinge To Urine?

Hi, I am having severe pain *about where my ovaries would be However, I had a complete hysterectomy years ago. Have blood tinged urine after wiping and intermittent stabbing pain in lower back which makes me very naseous. My doctors office opens in the morning, however, not sure if I should go to ER. (They usually can t help and would just have me follow up with a specialist) Is there anything that I can do to help alleviate pain while I wait until morning? I am thinking bladder infection, but these are not my usual symptoms. Thank you.

My name is Jared Marcucci MD and I will do my best to answer your question. Hopefully I can be of assistance.

Blood tinged urine and abdominal pain particularly in the lower abdomen called the suprapubic area are often associated with a urinary tract infection (UTI). As a urinary tract infection progresses it can become and infection of the kidneys which is called pyelonephritis. This kind of infection can cause back pain as well. However not all back pain related to a Urinary tract infection (UTI) means that the infection has progressed to pyelonephritis (kidney infection). One can have a UTI with back pain as well.

Another problem that can cause all of these symptoms as well is kidney stones. Kidney stones can cause the symptoms that you describe. Often kidney stones are very painful and can cause pain from you back (flank) radiating around to the groin or lower abdomen.

You would benefit from seeking medical evaluation for these symptoms. I have listed 2 of the more common causes of similar symptoms that you described however there are other illnesses that can cause similar symptoms. The best way to determine what you may have would be to get a medical evaluation and once a diagnosis is reached then treatment can be recommended. If you pain becomes severe or other concerning symptoms occur you should seek immediate medical care.

Hopefully this information has provided some help. Thank you for asking your question we appreciate the opportunity to try and help in any way.

Sincerely,

Jared Marcucci MD
