What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain In A Child?

My son who is eleven was taken to the ER this morning with right lower abdominal pain. His white blood cell count was at 24,000. There was cat scan done to check his appendix and that came back normal. They couldn t figure out what was causing the high white blood cell count. Now he has a rash that is breaking out on his face and in certain areas of his body. He also vomited once. Any ideas on what this might be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The most possible cause is intestine inflammation involving terminal ileum, some diverticula or else.

The facial rash is secondary systemic manifestations of underlying intestine pathology.

He requires hospital admission, IV fluids, antiemetics, GI-specific antibiotics and other supportive care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
