What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain Post A D&C Surgery?

I had a miscarriage and d&c a month ago today. About a week ago I began experiencing low abdominal/pelvic pains. On both sides. Also extremely painful lower back aches. It worsens when I am active or stand too long, but it is around where my ovaries are located. It has seemed to worsened and become more steady/constant since last weekend. Using the bathroom and the urge to “pass gas” is painful and puts extreme pressure on my lower back and pelvis. I have not had a menstral cycle since my miscarriage and my hcg levels are back to normal. What could this be?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello,

First of all, do not panic. Your symptoms can be due to post-abortion infection in the pelvic area. I will suggest you, get gynecology check-up done including per speculum and per vaginal examination is done. Also, get an ultrasound done to know about the status of the uterus and ovaries.

Please seek prescription support from your treating doctor for a broad-spectrum antibiotic like Doxycycline twice a day for ten days, and local vaginal pessary containing Clindamycin and Clotrimazole once at night for seven days.

Please observe proper vaginal hygiene. Keep private parts clean and dry. Use of Lactic acid-containing vaginal wash during bath time is advisable. Also, as your beta HCG test is negative for pregnancy, you can induce periods with tablet Regestrone twice a day for five days. Withdrawal bleeding occurs three to ten days after finishing the tablets.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purushottam Neurgaonkar
