What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain While On Mirena?

I had my second Mirena placed 4.5 years ago. I ve been experiencing stomach cramping that lasts for days and sharp pains in my lower stomach area every time I cough. I m wondering if this is possibly related to the Mirena and if I need to have it removed??

Hello Dear. One of the side effects of Mirena is lower abdominal pain and cramps. If it doesnot interfere with your daily work you can take pain killers like mepthal spas two or three times a day whenever you have pain. But if there is heavy bleeding and cramps which will affect your daily activities then you may have to get it removed. Kindly consult a gynecologist and discuss. You can probably switch to other modalities of contraceptives like OC pills.

Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you.
All the best
With warm regards
