What Causes Lower Back And Leg Pain After A Bunionectomy?

May 16, 2017, I had bunion surgery and 2 weeks after my surgery my foot was on its way to healing very nicely and it was painful the first week but no complications. After the second week I started using my heel to walk a little...4 days later I started having extreme pain lower back and down both legs. I have never seen a dr. for my back but I think last year I started noticing that maybe I was having trouble with sciatica. I am on third week of seeing chiropractor and still experiencing 8 for pain. Today, he was disappointed and said he would give me another couple of adjustments and then maybe the decompression table and if that did not work he would have to refer me. I am 67 yrs old in good health and exercise at gym 2-3 per week. I am having trouble dealing with this pain and have faith that it may be temporary. Would you have anything to add like what kind of fitness do you recommend that would rid of my paid and not have surgery??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

* The pain in the leg may be related to post-surgical scarring or stretching.
* The lower back pain is surely from nerve compression over the lumbar or sacral level.
* Primary relief with heating pad application, physiotherapy, anti-inflammatory drugs and definite therapy decisions after clinical evaluation with MRI report.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
