What Causes Lower Back Pain Upon Bending Down?

Hello, I am a 19 year old female. I m fairly active, I play soccer for fun and work out while I m at college. Recently this past semester I started having some lower back pain, which I found odd since I am so young and rather healthy. The pain is sort of dull in my lower back until I move a certain way, usually to bend down to pick something up, then the pain sort of shoots down a little bit to my tailbone. I described this to my dad and his thought was a pinched nerve, but I wanted to ask a professional. What do you think this pain is being caused by, and how do you think it happened? Also, what would be a good way to help relieve the pain or treat it? Thank you so much for your time! Collin

Hello,

The pain you are describing is most likely due to a muscle but a pinched nerve may cause similar symptoms as well. Nevertheless, in both cases, the treatment is the same.

You will need to use ibuprofen and try to avoid activities that make the pain worse. When you need to bend you can use your knees instead of your back. A physiotherapist would help your pain ease faster and also prevent future episodes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
