What Causes Lower Right Abdominal Pain With A History Of Constipation?

My 13 year old daughter is complaining of right lower abdominal pain. She has a history of chronic constipation and impaction. She has no fever, no nausea or vomiting, and the pain is sharp lasting 1-2 minutes and comes and goes. She takes over the counter Miralax daily adding exlax when she needs it. Do I need to worry about her appendix?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your daughter seem to be related to gas in the intestine due to constipation. I suggest doing an abdominal ultrasound to exclude other conditions such as appendicitis.

Meanwhile, I suggest using Miralax. I also recommend using a spasmolytic such as Buscopan to relieve the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
