What Causes Lump Near The Rectum?

several weeks back i notice a small lump near my rectum,a little larger than a pea. I was sent to a doctor by my primary care who told me i was feeling what was is my tail bone. The lump is much larger and more painful and obviously not my tail bone,im 48 yrs old and i think my tail bone stopped growing years ago. can u give me any insite on what this could be. I will NOT be going back to the same doctor.

welcome to Health care magic.
1.First thing you have to know is rectal mass is not generally felt out side.
2.Yes one can feel the tail bone but not the rectal mass, as it will not resist when you palpate.
3.However if you are not convinced the better way to rule out is - get an Ultrasound - to evaluate (its bit difficult for one to undergo )
4.Other one is CT pelvis ( Radiation and cost) and gives confirmative diagnosis - its you to decide.
5.If you are my patient i will examine and say if all above tests are needed or not.
Anything to ask ? do not hesitate. Thank you.
