Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello I m 38 years old, I have had a lump on my face cheek for a little while maybe 2 months. I have a beard and observed it more and then basically scratching it and noticed like something caught in my beard then i observed something their. So i squeezed it and thick, clumpy white stuff coming out and it had a smell thats stinky almost like puke smell. Anyways was wondering if it is serious or just normal?
Hello and welcome to HCM, A swelling on the cheek filled with thick, white material with bad odor is suggestive of infection. What is location of the swelling? Is it inside the cheek or it is on the outer surface? If present on the outer surface then probably it is a skin infection. If the swelling is on the inner surface of the cheek, then it could be due to irritation of the cheek mucosa by ill-fitting tooth, chewing tobacco etc. In case such a history is present, you need to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and thus management. An antibiotic course will be required for the current infection.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
