What Causes Lump On Neck, Stuffy Nose, Sore Throat And Cough?

I have a cold, stuffy nose, sore throat, cough and body ache, I have been shoveling snow since last Saturday ... I know I have lifted heavy snow with the shovel... I found yesterday a lump on the right side of my neck, doesn t show much but I felt it... I was wondering if it was a swollen gland .. I saw my Dr last Nov and he checked my neck and didn t find anything I do not smoke nor drink

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from upper respiratory tract infection, also known as Common Cold and the symptoms of sore throat, nasal congestion, body ache and runny nose are all due to cold..
Lump on right side of neck is due to inflamed and swollen lymph node secondary to infection..
As it is a viral infection it will not resolve with antibiotics as the antibiotics acts against bacteria and not viruses..
The infection will however resolve once the virus will complete its cycle in human body..
As of now you can start with supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms like:
1. Gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a luke warm solution..
2. Take a combination of decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytic like Ambroxol and anti allergic levocetrizine and another combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen, take cough suppressants containing Dextromethorphan and cough expectorant containing Gueifenesin....
3. Do steam inhalations and use a humidifier in your room..
4. Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
5. Sip on warm water throughout the day..

Hopefully the symptoms will resolve within a week and if it worsen consult a General Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
