Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Praveen G's Response
Hello, Welcome to HCM,
Lyme disease is a bacterial disease which is transmitted to humans by the bite of ticks carrying a bacteria known as Borrelia burgdorferi.
The initial infection can occur with minimal or no symptoms. But many people experience a flu like illness and a characteristic rash several days to a few weeks following a tick bite.
The rash is a red rash that grows in size daily. It is called erythema migrans. Rash is a skin lesion that typically begins as a red spot and expands over a period of days to weeks to form a large round lesion of at least 5 cm.Its shape can be circular or oval.
It can be confirmed by performing blood tests to examine for antibodies to the bacteria. Thank you
