What Causes Lymph Node At The Base Of Neck?

My son has a lump at the base of his neck on one side. The primary care Dr. did not think it was a lymph node because it was too hard and said it might be a fibroma. He had an ultrasound and the operator told him it was a lymph node. He is 26 and in good health. However, he is freaking out. Does this have to be something serious?

Thank you for asking Healthcare majic.
My name is Dr Ehsan Ullah &
I have gone through your query.

There is a list of causes for Lumps in the neck region

which

need carefully history and complete physical evaluation followed by Labs if needed to role out its Cause...

Lymph nodes or fibroma can be differentials like
other
Pathologies

Cysts
Thyroid or its ectopics
and
Tumors

but

If the physical examination does not explain the neck mass,

a fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of the neck mass may be performed.

The results of the FNA may allow the physician to focus further testing.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
