What Causes Memory Loss After Suffering From A Concussion?

Mom is 81 and 8 months ago she had a bad car accident, since then I noticed within weeks a slight difference in her memory but she had a concussion stayed overnight at hospital I thought it was normal- 2 months later went to primary, memory test she was ok. I m with my mom daily & her memory loss has been sudden & is worsening. Just saw primary 1 mos ago, now going to Memory Specialist. She also has confusion, some hair loss, agitation, and fluctuating emotions... But memory loss is the worse. Could this be a Tramatic Brain Injury or more likely Alztheimers due to her age?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is the most possible issue of injury to the hippocampus and amygdala regions of the brain at medial temporal area giving memory disturbances. However, it would be preferable to study the MRI images for further clarity.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
