What Causes Memory Loss Along With Depression While Suffering From Diabetes?

We (my sisters and I) feel that our other sister has some signs of Alzheimers and/or dementia. The visible symptoms are memory loss: long and short term. Signs of depression; highly emotional. Cries easily. She has an ill husband, a daughter and 3 grandchildren (all under 4) living with her. She recently retired from the work force and assumes most of the parenting responsibilities. She is diabetic. Recently called husband hysterical because she thought she had lost one of the children. What doctor /specialist should we see first to start the diagnosis process?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on your description, it is advisable for you to get a clinical evaluation done by consulting primarily Neurologist. If necessary, you may need to consult Psychiatrist.

For treatment of diabetes, you need to get her checked regularly and follow-up with Diabetologist or Physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
