General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Could be due to some underlying problems. Menstrual irregularities can be caused by:
- Eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa with extreme weight loss
- Excessive exercise or increased physical activity with weight loss
- Thyroid disease
- Polycystic ovary syndrome
- Premature ovarian failure
- Increase prolactin levels
- Pelvic inflammatory disease and
- Uterine fibroids

I advise you to consult a gynecologist to find out the underlying cause and its treatment accordingly which may also involve use of birth control pills which can help regulate menstrual cycles.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
