What Causes Menstruation Followed By Spotting Six Weeks Postpartum?

I had a period six weeks postpardum, then two weeks later had spotting from dark brown to bright red to dark brown again. I had unprotected sex once after the period i had first...now im confused, is this implantation bleeding i m experiencing or is it a period again?

Hi,
I understand your concern.
If you are lactating & feeding your baby exclusively on breast mlk.. you have a natural protection for family planning . Lactation is usually associated with irregular periods, so the problem you have might be due to that.
But in case you are not exclusively breast feeding.. there is chance of ovulation & conception too.
*So it's safer tro be on guard / get pregnancy test done after 3 weeks of un protected sex.
* It's a good habit to use at least barrier contraceptive till you start with other cyclical oral contraceptive which does not affect lactation.
