What Causes Metallic Taste In The Mouth And Weight Loss After A Stroke?

My mother just recently had a stroke, this is her second stroke and she now she will not eat or drink anything. She says it tastes bad (metalic) and smell is also bad. She has lost over 25 pounds. She says her throat is numb. The drs just want to send her to rehab but I feel that she needs further testing.

Dear user,

may be she is on medications that may give such symptoms. For example, levetiracetam, that it is used as secondary prevention of seizures after a stroke, is often associated with these symptoms. But be aware that even some areas of the brain, if injured, may leave some side effects very similar to what are you reporting.
