What Causes Metallic Taste, Uncontrollable Clenching Of Jaw And Grinding Of Teeth?

I have a acidic/metallic like taste in my mouth and I seem to be clenching my jaw uncontrollably. At times I find myself grinding my teeth at night. I've been very stressed with a new job and have been a bit overwhelmed ... Are these symptoms related to stress???

Hi.
Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms acidic or metallic taste in mouth can be due to oral and dental infections, acid reflux, side effects of medications as well as grinding of teeth or Bruxism and clenching of jaw is also due to anxiety.

Nothing to worry about it but you should control anxiety and stress and you can consult a general physician and get evaluated and he can advise you to take anti-anxiety medications like Benzodiazepines [ diazepam, lorazepam] for reducing stress and anxiety.
For metallic taste gargle with a flavoured mouthwash and chew flavoured sugarfree chewing gums.
Drink plenty of water.
Doing meditation and controlling your emotions can also help..

Another thing that you should take care of is that due teeth clenching and grinding habit can lead to wearing away of teeth and can cause sensitivity and excessive grinding can cause toothaches and decay to multiple teeth as well as it can cause Temporomandibular joint dysfunction or jaw joint disorder.
For this you need consulting a dentist and get evaluated and he can advise you to wear Mouth guard that can prevent teeth from coming in contact and prevent wearing of teeth..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
