What Causes Mid Cycle Spotting With Prolonged Menstruation?

Hi, I am 32 year old female and I have been having sex more frequently with my new boyfriend. We are having unprotected sex. I have noticed my periods have been lasting longer and spotting in between periods. I am cramping also between my periods and am very tired. Is it just because of ovulation and my hormones are all out of wack or something else? Thank you
