What Causes Mild Cramping In Right Abdomen After Eating?

For the last few days I have had intermittent discomfort/mild cramping/aching on the right side of my abdomen, at waist line. This discomfort is on my side, so includes a little to the front and to the back. Occurrence follows eating (not large amount) by about an hour. No particular food or time of day. It feels like a muscle cramp, and I react by wanting to bend over to the right. Doesn t help. Sitting can make it worse; lying down helps. I do not have a gallbladder or an appendix; have had a colonoscopy under one year ago. Have had IBS for many, many years; it is usually under control.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The cause of pain seems to be more of IBS which could have recurred. Other causes are gastrointestinal infection which can be ruled out by stool culture. I would advise you to visit your treating physician and get the cause confirmed by carrying out necessary tests and examination.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
