Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Mildly Painful Medial Extension In The Arch Of The Foot?
I have had flat feet for 30 + years and about 10 years ago my right foot arch totally collapsed with a noticeable bulge beginning to extend medially. About two weeks ago I had a mild pain in the arch region and noticed my right foot is slight canted away from my body (duck walk look). I also have a change in my walk. I notice a slight slapping sound while walking...only on the right foot. I thought about Dr. Kervorkian, but he was not on your list...suggestions?
Thanks for contacting with your health concern and since your complaint requires direct visual examination either by an Orthopedic or a Podiatrist thus it will be better if you can have an appointment with either of the two, it could possibly be 'arch strain'.
PS. Since you have stated that it is interfering with the routine activities [change in walking] so possibly third/fourth-grade arch strain.
1. After careful examination/investigation [x-ray, bone scan, MRI of foot] he may find any hidden cause of the same like: direct force trauma, muscle strain, ligament sprain, poor biomechanical alignment, overuse, stress fractures, inflammatory arthritis or lack of tightness or tightness in the joints in the foot and treat and manage accordingly, till then one can follow the R.I.C.E. protocol [rest/ice/compression and elevation] and over-the-counter [ OTC] pain medications help in reducing the pain and swelling of the arch of the foot.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
