What Causes Missed Period And Vaginal Spotting While HPT Is Negative?

I have had a missed period and am now 5 weeks late. I was sterilised 11years ago. I have some some light vaginal discharge, some stomach swelling, heartburn, back ache and signs of period pains on and off for the last few weeks, I did x2 pregnancy over 1 week ago and both came back with a negative result, but I continue to have these symptoms and slightly swollen breasts. I am a 38 year old female with 3 teenage children.

Hi,

You are 5weeks pregnant now and had done pregnancy test one week back. I am afraid the test was a bit premature. Home pregnancy test needs to be done after 8 days delay in periods. If it was so, please repeat it to completely exclude pregnancy (it should be negative, considering the family planning surgery you had).

In absence of pregnancy periods get delayed due to ill health, severe anemia, psychological stress or hormonal imbalance (ovarian, thyroid or pituitary hormones) which need to be guessed with physical examination and confirmed by laboratory testing. Pin pointing cause would facilitate specific treatment. Please consult a gynecologist.
