What Causes Missed Period Despite A Normal Pelvic Scan?
Good Morning Madam, I have not seen my period since December 2014, after a d/c. I have seen a gynecologist, he sent me for a hormonal profile test and a pelvic scan, he said the result was ok and gave me some drugs but since then I have not seen it yet. Also, I have tried herbal medicine but to no avail. Please, I need an advice on what to do because I’m 38 and have not given birth before. Thanks. Joy.
Delayed or irregular periods can be distressing:
(1) PCOS - polycystic ovarian syndrome- there would be cysts on the ultrasound and also changes in the levels of certain hormones. This is one the most common causes for the delayed period, you might consider rechecking your tests
(2) emotional stress or illness
(3) physical illness
(4 ) abnormal levels of thyroid hormone
(5) high levels of the hormone prolactin
(6) excess physical activity
(7) inadequate diet
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
