What Causes Missed Periods And Brown Vaginal Discharge While On Depo Shot?

Hello, I am an 18 year old female who is currently on the depo shot. I have been on the shot for around 9 months. Ever since I started the shot, my periods stopped completely (no complaints here!). But instead I get this super annoying brown discharge in fairly large amounts, but nothing compared to the amount of blood from a period. It occurs almost daily, but sometimes I get lucky and get about a week where there isn t any. I love the shot so I really don t want to switch birth control methods, but I m wondering if there is anything that I can do to stop it. After reading online for awhile, one post said their doctor gave her some medicine to take a few times a day for a week and it stopped it completely. I wanted to research the medicine to find out more about it, but now I can t find it. I m hoping you can help me.

Hi,

Unusual discharge is common while taking hormonal preparations. It is better to do a urine pregnancy test to rule out the pregnancy to be on the safe side. Swab test should be taken to rule out infections also. Ultrasound examination also should be done.
