What Causes Missed Periods When Took I-pill After Having Unprotected Sex?

hi doc, i had intercourse with my boy friend without safety. i took i pill after that. but after few days i got periods but very few. now 2 months are passed, i dint had periods. i did pregnancy test twice with the strips available in the market, but it is also negative. please suggest what to do.

Hi,

According to your history the possibility of pregnancy is less as you have taken the emergency contraceptive pill after intercourse and as the urine pregnancy test kits give negative results. Because of the high dose of hormones in it, emergency contraceptive pill can lead to menstrual irregularity. This is especially true with repeated intake, there should be at least 2 month gap between two emergency contraceptive pills to avoid menstrual irregularities.

Now, if you want to be sure regarding the possibility of pregnancy, please go for ultrasound once with your doctor's advice. Ultrasound can help in ruling out the possibility of pregnancy and also in identifying any possible cause for the delayed periods. If no abnormality detected, you can go for tablets to induce the withdrawal bleeding with your doctor's advice.
