What Causes Mole To Turn Into Pimple And Discharge Pus?
My husband has had a mole a little smaller than a dime on his head his whole life. It is raised and usually is black. It seemed to turn into a pimple after 50 years and pus came out of it when he pushed on it. It was sore. It appears to be a little smaller now. should he be worried? he is of american indian descent

Hello,
Your husband has had mole on his head and presently pus is coming out of it after he pushed on it. Most moles are benign. But when it becomes infected it may discharge pus. It commonly occurs due to abrasion, scratching, picking or due to ingrown hair, etc. Keep the affected area clean. Apply ointment Bacitracin or Neosporin for relief. The infection should clear up in a day or two.
However, if it does not he is suggested to get clinically examined by a dermatologist. You will be accordingly treated. In case the mole shows signs of skin cancer, your doctor can take a small sample of the mole (biopsy) for further study and management. If needed the dermatologist can recommend removal of the mole completely. You may also be referred to a specialist for further examination and treatment.
