What Causes Mood Swings From Being Very Energetic To Severe Fatigue?

A woman in my office appears to be under the influence of something. She has days of incredible energy, talking loud and quickly, happy and joyous. In a few weeks time, she states that she is unable to sleep, becomes grouchy, complaining. Any ideas on what she might be dealing with?
