What Causes Moon Shape On The Cuticles Of Fingers?
HELLO ,my question is that I have a moon figure on my cuticles of my fingers. What does this mean? I am a diabetic, high blood pressure and arthritis in both knees. In July of last year I had Bell Palsy. Will any of these illnesses bring these things on?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
The moon shape on the cuticles of your fingers is called a "lunula" and it is a normal part of nail anatomy. However, changes in the appearance of the lunula, such as its size or color, can sometimes be a sign of an underlying health condition. In some cases, diseases such as liver disease, kidney disease, or anemia can cause changes in the appearance of the lunula. Additionally, certain medications and nutritional deficiencies can also affect the appearance of the lunula. Your underlying health conditions may be contributing to changes in the appearance of your lunula.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
