What Causes Mucus Build Up And Sinusitis While On Mucinex?

I am a singer. I have been having some bad post nasal drip or mucus build up. I have a couple of competitions coming up. I ve notice this last week it s been difficult to sing low notes and my voice is extremely low in the morning. I feel pretty phlegmy throughout the day. I live in the mountains I know it s dry. I ve laid off caffeine, have a humidifier, taking muscinex, drinking lots of water. I m just not sure why this is happening. I have been diagnosed with Sinistitus but, was told Flonase is a steroid and those steroids can actually thin out your vocal folds.

Hi,

As you already are diagnosed with Sinusitis, then mucous buildup can be due to it and it can be a cause of inflammation of vocal cords and causing voice disturbances. You need to take a course of antibiotics for relieving the same. I would suggest you consult an otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS view X-ray of sinuses can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephedrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room. You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline.
