What Causes Mucus Drainage During Urination?

Hi Doctor. For the past few days when I urinate there has been small/thin wisps of what looks like white film or mucus. I have not had any discomfort or any other strange symptoms of anything. At first I worried that this was a sign of a UTI - I have had one UTI in the past, but I am not feeling the same at all as I did then and did not have this problem then, either. Do you know what this filmy thing might be? I am an 18yo NOT sexually-active female on Tri-Previfim (sp?).

Hi,

The presence of thin wisps of white film or mucus during urination could be due to several different reasons, including but not limited to:
* UTI (urinary tract infection): While you may not be experiencing the typical symptoms of a UTI such as pain or burning during urination, the presence of mucus in the urine can be a sign of an infection.
* Dehydration: Dehydration can cause the urine to become concentrated and thicker, which may result in mucus being present.
* Irritation: Irritation of the urinary tract or bladder can also lead to the production of mucus. This could be due to factors such as the use of certain medications or hygiene products, or exposure to irritants.
* Sexual activity: While you mention that you are not sexually active, sexual activity can sometimes lead to the production of mucus in the urine due to the introduction of bacteria into the urinary tract.
* Other medical conditions: Several other medical conditions could cause mucus in the urine, such as kidney stones, bladder cancer, or interstitial cystitis.

If you are experiencing any other symptoms or if the mucus persists, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider. Your healthcare provider may recommend a urine test to check for the presence of infection or other underlying medical conditions.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
