What Causes Muffled Hearing?

Hi there- both of my ears are constantly plugged- I have gone to the doctor and they never can seem to tell me what is wrong. I am not sick, there is no wax build up and i have gone to see an ears throat and nose specialist and they dont see anything wrong. I have tried nasal sprays, and sinus meds but nothing helps- there is no pain - but every day for the past year or more they chronically feel plugged and I try to constantly pop them but they won t- what else could I do??

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Muffled hearing can be caused due to causes like Eustachian tube dysfunction due to clogged Eustachian tubes, fluid behind the eardrums, inner ear problems etc..

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x ray, MRI Scan etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

If there is fluid accumulation behind the eardrum and the decongestants and other sinus medications are not working then you can be advised to get surgical drainage of the ears done to relieve the blockage..
As of now you can chew sugarfree chewing gums as at times it helps in relieving clogging..
Taking steam inhalation can also help..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
